Rules: Scramble with Team Handicaps
1. The Basics: In a scramble, each player tees off on each hole (men from the white tee box, women from the red tee box). The best of the tee shots is selected and all players play their second shots from that spot. The best of the second shots is determined, then all play their third shots from that spot, and so on until the ball is holed. There is a two putt maximum per player per hole.
2. More Detailed: Subsequent shots are played from a hazard, rough, fairway, or fringe of the green. The ball must be placed within one club length of the selected shot, no nearer to the hole, and must remain in the hazard, bunker, rough, fairway, or on the fringe of the green. Players may hit in any order they wish. Teams with less than four players may rotate players on each hole to take the fourth shot. Each player’s drive must be used at least three times. When putting, you must place your ball within two inches of the selected shot, no nearer to the hole. Players may putt in any order they wish.
3. The team will be responsible for keeping the team score. At the completion of play, the team must calculate its total gross score (the raw score before handicapping, including Mulligans) and enter the hole by hole score into the Golf Genius Scoring App. (Paper scorecards may be kept as a back up for your team but will not be accepted at the scorer's table).
4. USGA stroke rules will govern all play, with the exception of the scramble format and local rules. We will use a simplified handicapping system to ensure everyone has a fair chance at getting “First” or “Worst” honors. There will be prizes for Low Gross and Low Net scores.
5. Mulligan tickets will be found in your golf package, and are limited to 2 per player. They may be used for drives and shots in the fairway, rough, or on the green. Mulligans cannot be used for the Hole-in-One, closest-to-the-pin (KP), or long drive competitions. Teams are responsible for marking the Mulligans used on the scorecard. Proper use of Mulligans may be verified.
6. Normal course rules governing behavior and etiquette apply.
7. All tournament committee decisions are final.
How the NPFVOA Handicap System Works:
Per Golfer: Handicap Strokes Off
1-10 0
11-20 -1
21-30 -2
31-40 -3
41+ -4
Per Team: Add the strokes off for each individual golfer to get a team handicap total, with 12 strokes off maximum per team. The team handicap will be subtracted from the gross team score to get the final (net) score.
EXAMPLE:
Golfer #1 - 35 Handicap -3
Golfer #2 - 15 Handicap -1
Golfer #3 - 8 Handicap 0
Golfer #4 - Doesn’t Know (beginner) -4
Team Handicap -8
